Getting to Know: Nathalie Elharrar, LARARE

The Shoe Goddess has featured Larare shoes numerous times in the past, but now we have the unique opportunity of getting to know the design genius behind the women’s shoe line, Nathalie Elharrar. Elharrar is no stranger to design, in fact, she has a resume that would make any fashionista quite jealous. The French shoe designer resides in Paris and has worked to expand accessories collections for Balmain, Guy Laroche by Michel Klein, Michel Klein, Thierry Mugler and Lagerfeld Gallery. She also created the Paule Ka shoe collections from 2004 to 2007, where she brought very futuristic, plexi-glass high heels as the center point of the collection. Whilst freelance designing, Elharrar went out on her own to create her first collection of women’s shoes, Larare, in 2007. Since then, the line has exploded with truly inventive styles, beautiful architecture and a design aesthetic that is all her own. She also teaches the “Art of Creating Shoes” at Institut Francais de la Mode. The Larare collections are glam, luxurious and edgy with just enough rock and roll to literally rock your socks off, and slip your feet right into her gem niche in the footwear industry. She draws inspiration from female comic icons, like Barbarella, alongside the fantasy behind hero’s stories. The result of her Spring/Summer 2010 collection, titled “A Sharp Wing of a Butterfly” is effortlessly stunning, with details that are of a true artisan and shoes that prove this designer has hit the ground hard, and isn’t going anywhere. Getting to Know: Heather Williams of H Williams

Designer Heather Williams of H Williams footwear is quickly becoming a Shoe Goddess favorite. With her luxe materials and incredible usage of details and architecture, her line is unique and a fresh take on the footwear industry. Saks Fifth Avenue in New York City’s, 10022-SHOE recently picked up the line as an emerging designer, and will begin selling the line in the spring. Personally, I am a fan of the almost origami-like architecture found in many of the shoes, and their ability to play many roles in a woman’s wardrobe, making them not only versatile, but staple pieces, that have managed to become timeless while remaining on-trend. Williams also makes stunning bags, which are definitely worth more than just a glance, but for now, let’s focus on the shoes. Read the rest of this entry »

Getting To Know: Monica Botkier

Monica Botkier was known for years as the designer of one of the hottest “it” handbag lines. While she still designs that handbag line, and it is still hot as ever, she added shoes to her design roster a few years back. Just like her handbags, her shoes are truly amazing. They are fashion forward, comfortable, well made, beautiful and classics. Being an accessory fanatic, Monica Botkier is my kind of girl, a girl after my own heart, and at times, my wallet :) . Now if she would only start designing jewelry…But in the meantime, here is a sneak peek into designer Monica Botkier. Read the rest of this entry »

Getting to Know: Jerome C. Rousseau

jerome_c_mg_6896

The Shoe Goddess: When did you first become interested in shoes?

Jerome C. Rousseau: As a young teenager in Quebec, I came across a band called “Deee-Lite.”  They were wearing wild footwear and I started drawing their shoes in art classes. Drawing shoes became something I wanted to do all the time, and after researching the history of shoes it evolved into a strong passion. I ended up moving to London to study at Cordwainers College, which turned out to be the start of a brilliant journey for me. Read the rest of this entry »
