The Shoe Goddess: When did you first become interested in shoes?

TSG: Who or what inspires you most?

DB: Leather, and sole constructions inspire me as well as the idea of a shoe silhouette to complete a clothing ensemble.

TSG:
What is your typical day like?

DB: The morning before noon is spent in contact with the Italian factories, middle of the day is juggling design, store and all else….
TSG: Can a woman ever have too many shoes?

DB: A woman only needs three or four perfect shoes per season.

TSG:
How did your past experiences help you in starting your own line?

DB: I worked for large well-run designer companies, and every part of that experience is utilized. The more expensive a product is, the more hands-on is the design process to make that item.
TSG: Talk about the inspiration for your latest line.

DB: Designing for the urban woman, using more natural leathers and chain and metal embroideries, inspired by my lingerie and gem line.

TSG: What shoe must every woman have in her closet?

DB: Gorgeous pumps.
TSG: If you could bring only one pair of shoes on your next trip, what would they be?

DB: Gorgeous black pumps that work with a skirt or skinny pant.

TSG:
What shoes are you wearing now?

DB: Black front zip ankle boots.
TSG: Which shoe designer has inspired you the most?

DB: Roger Vivier, Massaro
TSG: What inspired you to expand your line beyond footwear?

DB: I have always designed other products, and I like the concept of one of my necklaces worn with one of my shoes to ground the ready-to-wear look.  The accessory becomes the focus of the outfit, head to toe.

TSG: You have a jewelry and intimates collection – any thoughts of expanding your collection further?

DB: Handbags, perfume…and more to come.
TSG: How did you come about deciding to start other accessories lines after shoes?

DB: I had designed men’s small leather goods in addition to women’s shoes at Dior, and I had originally designed Calvin Klein underwear so it all made sense to me….
TSG: What is more important in a woman’s wardrobe – shoes or jewels?

DB: Shoes are necessary, gems enhance.
TSG: What celebrity would you absolutely love to see in your shoes?

DB: It makes me happy to see my shoes on a “normal” woman or a celebrity, when I know that I have given her a new attitude about how powerful and pretty she can feel.
