Couture Fall 2009 Christian Dior
For his couture defile Fall 2009, John Galliano has taken the collection back to the legendary salon of the headquarters in the Avenue Montaigne, to show the way clothes were traditionally presented to clients and the press in the 1950s.
John Galliano said he was inspired by behind-the-scenes documentary photographs taken more than half a century ago as Monsieur Dior dressed his cabine of mannequins for show.
The idea is to present a collection that will mix behind the scene as well as the models dressed up.
The collection brings back classics from the 1950s emphasizing basques, girdles, lace-edged slips, and the traditional petit manteau were transformed into bright colors on the classic wasp-waisted silhouette of Dior’s New Look.
I loved the draped bubble skirts, padded-hip coats and full-skirted evening gowns all in beautiful shades of lime, vibrant tangerine and bright raspberry contrasted with the flesh tones of the lingerie.
As usual John Galliano turned to his advantage a moment of revamping for the house of Dior.
