APCH Teen Prom Night
It feels like I haven’t written an article in such a long time! This is primarily due to the fact that it took me a while to recover from my step-daughter’s engagement party, which I organized. Since the party took place at my house, needless to say that between the baking (for 100 people) and the whole organizing thing, I truly needed some time off!
The same week we moved The Shoe Goddess operation to an office space located in Vernon, Calif., basically in the middle of nowhere (it takes me 45 minutes to get there when there is not much traffic).
The main reason for the move was for me to be closer to my charity, A Place Called Home. In light of the tough economic climate, APCH (and many other non-profit organizations) has been hit hard. The budget cuts have dramatically affected APCH, so they are now more then ever relying on volunteers to keep the programs running and to keep up with the increasing demands of the community.
At the beginning of May, APCH hosted The Cinderella Project, which provides underprivileged girls dresses, shoes and accessories for prom. And last Thursday, APCH hosted Teen Prom Night, during which teenagers girls get free makeovers for their big prom day!
So, I gathered some volunteers, and we had an amazing time doing makeup and hair for a group of super excited and happy girls! I have to mention that the best reward a volunteer can ever get is to see the happiness and the sparkles in those kids’ eyes.
Thanks to Benjamin from APCH, Merlin Osbourne, Herbalife and all the volunteers that helped make this great event a success!
