The Cinderella Project, Part 2
The Cinderella Project, Part 2
We posted about The Cinderella Project earlier this week, and here is the video that you have been waiting for with clips of the truly fantastic two days. Click the link above to view the video.Â
The Cinderella Project took place at A Place Called Home in South Central Los Angeles, and was truly an amazing experience to be a part of. Watching girls truly transform into princesses is breathtaking, and definitely made me feel guilty, because I felt so rewarded, when these beautiful young ladies are the ones that are being dressed and jeweled for one of the most memorable night’s in a young girl’s life.Â
The experience was also very refreshing. While I love shoes, and generally, the most fantastic shoes are expensive due to the amount of labor that goes into them, I think sometimes we lose sight of what we are buying and why. Do you buy Louboutins because “everyone else has them” or because you generally love them and the way they look on your feet? With a mixture of shoes from Jessica Simpson and American Eagle to Manolo Blahnik and Jimmy Choo, these girls saw past the labels. In fact, the labels were the last thing that mattered. One girl, when picking up a Louboutin, commented on how the shoes would not match because of the weird red bottom. These girls just wanted a fabulous pair of shoes to match their gowns for their special prom night. No girl went running for the most expensive dress and shoes that they could find. Instead they came in anxious and excited to find “their” perfect prom outfit.Â
I will not deny that I am a lover of fabulous shoes, but I think the reason sometimes behind why we buy into fashion is not the right one. Helping the girls really made me stop and realize that while I love fashion, and I do see it as a way of life, it is, at the end of the day, simply clothes and shoes. The girls that came to pick out their dresses were so inspiring. Some knew what they wanted; others had never worn a dress and heels before. The fairy godmothers and an adorable little Cinderella helped make this day happen, and most importantly, made sure that every girl was happy, comfortable, excited and looked absolutely fabulous for her prom night.
